Kachchh, as a district and Bhuj in particular, has a very long history of relationship with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. At the time of writing this, the Profession of Chartered Accountancy at Bhuj is blessed with active presence and participation of two of the members who are associated with the ICAI for about Sixty years now on the strength of having qualified as the members of the ICAI in 1961/1962. There are a few more members who have either completed silver jubilee of their membership years or are very near to that.
The growth of the profession in terms of membership strength at Bhuj has been, by and large, consistent with the national trend. The membership strength witnessed a comparatively minor fillip during the mid Eighties. The next major boost to membership came at the turn of the millennium that is around 2001. Towards the end of the first decade of the new century, the momentum reflected the overall trend and the membership strength increased by leaps and bounds, at times, even outperforming the national trend. This synchronicity with the national trend has stayed more or less true till date.
Bhuj registered its formal presence at the ICAI in 2004 when A CPE CHAPTER was formed at Bhuj to cater to the needs of the members for Continuing Professional Education initiative of the ICAI. The next big landmark for Bhuj was 2009 when ICAI EXAM CENTRE was awarded to Bhuj. In the year 2010, Gandhidham city of the Kachchh District was awarded a Branch by the ICAI. In terms of the extent regulations, Bhuj was placed under the jurisdiction of The Gandhidham Branch of the ICAI. Around 2014, it was realized that Bhuj and Nearby areas had gained sufficiently in terms of membership strength to be eligible to have a separate Branch as per the extent regulations. The process for setting up of Bhuj Branch was initiated by the members of Bhuj through repeated representation to the Regional and Central Councils. All these efforts, after passing through various levels of jurisdictional processes of verification and scrutiny, culminated in the promulgation of a notification on 01-08-2015 which officially declared the formation of Bhuj Branch of WIRC of ICAI. The Branch was formally dedicated to the service of the profession on 01-02-2016.
